Welcome to my design journal. Here is where I plan to write about all my interests, explorations, or whatever's on my mind at the moment in relation to design and the arts at large. Before I dig in, here's little bit about me!

I'm Loc, a product designer in Atlanta, GA. I'm originally from Vietnam, but moved to GA when I was 7 years old and pretty much grew up here. I call GA my home more so than Vietnam to be honest. I was the art kid ever since I was little. I remember my first doodle was in the first grade; I had drew a little dog on the edge of my paper where I was suppose to practice math, but instead I was day dreaming about owning a dog one day.

Later on, I would try to do art instead of homework at every opportunity. I don't know if all teachers do this or just mine, but for projects we would be asked to write an essay or create something visual and explain it in place of an essay. I would always choose the latter. Now that I think about it, it was my first taste of graphic design. I was creating something based on a brief, for a "client," and what I created had to tell a story about a certain topic.

I didn't know what design was until I got to college. I was trying out different types of art at my local university before I took my first design class. The conceptual and distilling nature of design really captivated me as you take an idea and turn it into something real. The functional aspect of it was also really intriguing. Digital design was a new frontier that could do both and I jumped at it!

12 years later, here I am! My first job was in 2012 or in iPhone numeral: the iPhone 5. So much has changed, but many things still hold true. A design still needs good UX, an engaging UI, and user needs to know there's value in interacting with your design. I love working in a field where there is constantly something new popping up. I can't wait to see what comes next!
