NCR's white-label mobile banking app, used by Financial Institutions (FIs), was functional but lagged behind other FinTech apps in the market. The task was to redesign the app to improve its functionality and make it future-proof.
Through research, I discovered that users primarily used the landing screen for checking balances and completing quick tasks. Based on this insight, I redesigned the app with a customizable home screen, allowing users to tailor their experience. Additionally, I built an adaptable ecosystem to support future growth and changes in the app’s functionality.
We talked to the stakeholders to understand their world, goals, and aspiration for the new banking app. At the same time, we doved into the current app and evaluate how it's performing against other app in the same landscape. Finally, we talked to the end-users and discover how they're using the their mobile banking app.
We identified key areas of focus to tackle in the redesign that will not only meet our client's request but also address issues that FIs and end-users wanted to resolve. Usability testing helped verify whether we are heading in the right direction, and almost all our tests came back positive.
The new design uses colors, typography, and elements like corner radius to create versatile styles that can work with each FI's aesthetic. The biggest challenge was not designing around any specific brand, so we created a fictional bank (Lorem Ipsum Bank) as our foundation.
