A new visual style

Georgia-Pacific Building Products (Build GP) division produces materials for all building construction needs. Their website was overdue for a redesign to modernize its look and feel and to make it more responsive and user-friendly across various screens and devices. I collaborated with our Creative Director to deliver two distinct visual styles for the Build GP team. Once a style was chosen, I took the lead in designing all the pages for both desktop and mobile versions of the site. Among these pages, I especially enjoyed working on four sections that presented unique challenges to solve for.

A robust resource center

Challenge: Showing all the resources or a pre-filtered result?

From contractors to architects, each user needs a variety of documents and resources to quickly understand the construction materials before starting a project. I redesigned the Resource Center to include predictive search, allowing users to narrow down the number of results. Users can also select multiple resources to save to a list, download, or share to expedite their workflow.

Find where to buy Build GP’s products

Challenge: Enter in all information before generating the results or the most pertinent?

A primary goal of the site is to direct users to this page to help them find the Build GP products they need. I designed the search process to optimize results by allowing users to focus on just the address first; then, users can narrow down the results to specific products.

Explore their past projects

Challenge: Each building type can have many projects. Which filter can help reduce the results?

After selecting a building type, users would be inundated with all projects across the U.S. for that building type. Users can focus on a specific state to reduce the results and see the variety of projects Build GP has completed in that state.

Streamline a calculation process

Challenge: Showing all the steps in a lengthy process and keeping users informed of the total cost.

I redesigned the user flow so that users can see their current and future steps, keep track of the material cost as more data is collected, and generate a summary view that users can download or share to keep a record of.

Takeaway

Redesigning an entire website with such a small team is not for the faint of heart. This required great project management to deliver each part of the site in sprints, allowing time for revisions and client feedback. I’m thankful for everyone for their amazing collaboration in getting everything to the finish line.
